History

In 1954, Marion Village opened on U.S. Route 1 between Camden and Rockport, Maine. Originally, it was 10 cabins set back from the main road with a large swimming pool and a restaurant. Billboards could be seen from Bath to Bucksport advertising the home-baked bread served in Marion Village.

After several decades and several changes of ownership, the property had fallen into neglect and a change was needed. Along with cleaning up the property and repairing the buildings, a new facility was imagined – one that would be a real home-away-from-home, constructed of traditional materials with New England architectural features and offering more modern comforts for guests.

Our hope is that it feels less like a motel and more like a guest room – a place where you can relax, recharge, and enjoy your romantic getaway or family vacation near Penobscot Bay. That it feels more like home – only you don’t have to make or clean up breakfast and refreshments are available each afternoon.

The Country Inn, a mid-coast Maine hotel, offers 36 rooms in the main house, which is open year-round, and 11 cottages, available May through October. The inn is family-friendly and offers handicap accessible rooms. We also offer pet-friendly rooms.

Our heart of service today is the same as it has always been – a staff which strives to serve our guests and give them an incredible getaway experience in mid-coast Maine. Simply decorated rooms with a country feel greet our guests, a better-than-continental is ready and waiting when they wake up in the morning, and the heated pool is available year-round. You’ll also enjoy free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs in each room.

We look forward to having your stay with us – where the mountains meet the sea – and enjoy the wonderful Maine coastline, harbors, and historical cities.
