In the beginning (1954), there came to be a motel at the side of U.S. Route 1 in Rockport, Maine. In its original form it consisted of ten cabins set back from the main road, with a broad expanse oflawn, a large swimming pool, and a restaurant. It was called Marion Village in honor of the builder’s wife, and billboards advertising the home baked bread served could be found from Bath to Bucksport.

After several decades, multiple changes of ownership, and general neglect, a change was needed. Grass grew tall in the front yard surrounding the bodies of the old cars left there; the cabins leaned in many directions, and the pool would no longer hold water. As it happened, I was working out of Camden and drove by the property each day; I was taken with the idea of redeveloping the property, and it was still operating. I joined efforts with Bob Liberty, who had been
operating lodging facilities in the area for many years, and
we began developing plans for a new facility.

The original lodging was named Marion Village in honor of the builder’s wife, and billboards advertising the home baked bread served could be found from Bath to Bucksport.

We felt the new Inn should be a real ” home away from home” with the look and feel of an older, comfortable facility, but with the features needed by today’s travelers. So the new Inn was constructed of traditional materials, with New England architectural features and details. As my daughter observed early on “these rooms don’t look like motel rooms, they look like nana’s bedroom.” With that vote I decided we had succeeded.

And so our Inn feels like home, and is equipped with pool, health club, jacuzzi, sauna, and friendly staff. We feature a fine complimentary country breakfast buffet, and tea in the afternoon. Our telephone system will keep track of your messages, and we are wireless capable so you can keep in touch; if you don’t bring your laptop, you are welcome to use our guest computer in the library and while you’re there, enjoy a great book!
